Great Pyrenees

Bear our 12 year old

We have had the Great Pyrenees brighten our lives for 12 years. Great Pyrenees are a exceptional breed if you have had one you will know what I am talking about. They are very spirtual dogs that are always intuned to your emotions.

Our old boy bear is now 12 years old, he retired himself this year from chasing down coyotes but still patrols the land and makes sure everything is safe 4-5 times a day. He is a lot slower now a days but still thinks he has a job to do.

Great Pyrenees are not aggressive dogs but they definitely let you know if someone comes into your yard and would protect you with their life if they felt the person has entered to harm you.

We had a stray cat come into our yard that attacked one of my kids, bear came out of no where and grabbed the cat off her. Another time we had a litter of kittens and when they were 2 weeks old Bear went over to where they were and carried them one by one to the front yard and then laid down with them and mothered them for hours. Even now you can find a cat curled up beside him as he sleeps

They are wonderful family dogs, excellent around children, I have 5 children and he watches over them better than I do

The Pyr's need to have a job, they don't do well in homes where they have nothing to do. They make wonderful therapy dogs, guardians of livestock, carting, going for walks.

They can have a stubborn streak and require training at a early age, if your getting a pyr to patrol your acreage or farm they need to be walked daily around the land so they know the boundaries and what they need to protect. Males need to be neutered to control the coyotes, an unaltered male can be lured into the pack by the female coyotes

Pyr's are so funny, they love to play and dodge you, they even smile when they are happy

We just couldn't imagine life without a Pyrenees...
